- It’s about paying yourself first! As business owners, we start a business, hire people, and get involved and these people become our family. We become involved and they become a part of making the success of the company. But when things don’t go as planned we forget as business owners that we need to pay ourselves first.
- There’s a very famous Japanese koan, “If your cup isn’t full then you cannot serve others.” I believe that sentiment has been taken up by Mother Teresa, by all sorts of people. Please don’t quote me on any of that :).
- What I’m trying to get to today, is that remember that if you are stressed out, not feeling stable, happy, passionate, driven in what you’re doing, that’s going to come across to every other area of your business and your life. Remember to take out a little bit of time for yourself.
I’m Shauna, the Tax Goddess, coming to you here live from Scottsdale, Arizona. Today, I wanted to talk to you about something that’s fairly close to my heart. It’s about paying yourself first as a business owner. Often as business owners we start a business and we get involved and we hire people and we bring on teams and these people they become our family; we become involved with them and them with us and making the success of the company, all those things. But when things don’t go as planned, when there are changes, when things need to happen, one of the things that we forget as business owners is that you need to pay yourself first.
There’s a very famous, I think it’s a Japanese koan, I’m sure it started somewhere else before that but talking about if your cup isn’t full then you cannot serve others. You cannot pour and help for others. I believe that sentiment has been taken up by Mother Teresa, by all sorts of people. Please don’t quote me on any of that. 🙂
Point being and really what I’m trying to get to today, is that remember that you are stressed out, if you are overwhelmed, if you are not feeling stable, happy, passionate, or driven in what you’re doing, that’s going to come across to every other area of your business, of your life. Remember to take out a little bit of time for yourself. One of my absolute favorite videos and talking about a little bit of time for yourself, paying yourself first, making sure you are taken care of, is actually by a monk talking about a chattering monkey. I will make sure that we have the link to that video in the footnotes below and thank you monk, name unknown at this exact moment, for your video. It really had quite an impact on my life and then I share it with a lot of people and so today I’m sharing it with you guys.
Just a reminder, pay yourself first and that means financially, health wise, mentally, emotionally. If you are not happy and stable and strong, it is going to be really, really hard for you to serve your customers and help your employees and help all of those around you that you feel passionate that you want to help, to be able to do that.
If anybody has any questions or want to talk about any of that, feel free to message us in the comments below. I’m pretty passionate on the Tim Ferris everything pretty much. You guys have heard more than enough about that in our previous videos. You can see his little diagram here on my wall talking about delegation and one of the very first questions you need to ask yourself is, am I going to enjoy this? I really, really believe that that is a part of paying yourself first, doing what you love and what you’re passionate about and everything else either getting rid of it or making it work in some other way.
Hope you guys are having a great day and Shauna the Tax Goddess here live from Scottsdale. If you guys have any questions whatsoever feel free to reach out to us, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, anywhere at all.
