Using the 80% rule to get your project moving forward

  • In life we always have a project, a goal, or something that we’re working towards that we really need to focus on.
  • There are all sorts of rules but 80% means when you get something to 80% of good you should go for it.
  • A lot of people will get stuck in the planning phase where the plan has to be perfect with all written details. One of the big problem with doing that is that sometimes you just never move ahead.

Hey, everybody. This is Shauna, the Tax Goddess, and today I want to talk to you about one of my favorite rules of life, which is 80% of perfect. So many times in life we have a project, or a goal, or something that we’re working towards that we really need to focus on and really drive for, but a lot of people will get stuck in almost like the planning phase where the plan has to be perfect. It has to be 100% written out all the details before they actually move ahead. Well, one of the big problems with doing that is that sometimes you just never move ahead.

One of the rules that I’ve implemented for myself is what I call the 80% rule. I’m sure it’s got names in tons of other arenas. You hear the 80/20 rule. There’s all sorts of rules but this is 80%. When you get something to 80% of good, go for it, proceed, move forward. It’s not always going to be the best. It’s not always going to be perfect, but if you never take that first step, you’re never going to start in the first place. My rule for all those business owners out there, super simple today, is remember the 80%. If it’s 80% of good, do it. Move forward, go and do it. I hope you guys are having a great day and I will talk to you later. Bye.
