There’s a race to the bottom, one where communities fight to suspend labor and environmental rules in order to become the world’s cheapest supplier. The problem with the race to the bottom is that you might win…
In Seth Godin’s article he discusses how once our great country had the industrial revolution, creating jobs in factories and mills. Now, when other countries are just having this revolution themselves, we have basically two choices:
1) Get out of the race to the bottom (move towards outsourcing, creating intellectual jobs that rely more on computers, software, the internet, and intellectual capital)
2) Stay in and remove our boundries on environmental protection and minimum wages.
Where would you rather be?
